Disaster Management is one of the major activities in the Revenue Department. The Revenue Department is an oldest Department of the State Government, which play a very vital role in the Administration comprising District Administration, Land Records & Settlement, Relief Rehabilitation and Disaster Management. This Department is functioning for the greater interest of the poorest of the poor with the help of three tier Panchayats in managing their own affairs.
Revenue Department is the Nodal Department for Disaster Management in the State. Tripura is prone to various natural and human induced disasters. The State is situated in the most vulnerable earthquake prone Zone-V of India. Having regard to the fact of multi disaster prone, the Revenue Department had implemented the GOI-UNDP Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Programme from 2003-2009. Taking forwarding the lessons learnt from DRM Programme, the State has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UNDP and Government of India for implementation of GOI-UNDP Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Programme (2009-2012) in the State. For the greater interest of Tripura, Revenue Department has taken a lead role on Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Prevention activities at various levels in the State.
